Map of our roadtrip:

Day 1
We drove from Ljubljana to Zagreb (3h, 163km), and stayed in Airbnb near the city centre. Checked into the apartment at about 8pm, and rest and relax in the apartment. |
|
Day 2
After breakfast, we joined a half day free walking tour in Zagreb city. We parked our car within the AirBnb, and took a short 10-15 mins walk to the city centre to join the tour. A word of cautious, be careful of pick pockets as nowadays they will join the free walking tour and target tourists who are not alert. My wife was one of the targets, but fortunately she was alert and did not fall victim. After the walking tour, we had our own free time to explore Zagreb. |

Day 3
After checking out from the Airbnb in Zagreb, we drove to Rastoke village (2h, 110km), an interesting historic center of the Croatian municipality of Slunj, known for the Slunjčica river, which flows into the river Korana at Rastoke. At Rastoke, similar natural phenomena are occurring as at the Plitvice Lakes (Wikipedia). We spend about an hour here in Rastoke before driving to Plitvicka National Park (30m, 34km). Plitviče Lakes National Park is a 295-sq.-km forest reserve in central Croatia. It's known for a chain of 16 terraced lakes, joined by waterfalls, that extend into a limestone canyon. Walkways and hiking trails wind around and across the water, and an electric boat links the 12 upper and 4 lower lakes. The latter are the site of Veliki Slap, a 78m-high waterfall. The place is huge and we spend few hours to cover the area till evening before driving to Zadar (2h, 145km) to overnight. |
|
Day 4
After breakfast, we spend time exploring Zadar, a city on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, is known for the Roman and Venetian ruins of its peninsular Old Town. There are several Venetian gates in the city walls. Surrounding the Roman-era Forum is 11th-century St. Mary’s Convent, with religious art dating to the 8th century. There’s also the grand, 12th-century St. Anastasia’s Cathedral and the round, 9th-century pre-Romanesque Church of St. Donatus (Wikipedia). After lunch, we drove from Zadar to Krka NP (1h10m, 80km), another nice place for waterfalls before driving to Trogir (1h, 56km) to stay overnight. |
|
Day 5
In Trogir, we did a private islands hopping boat tour to surrounding small islands and the famous Blue Lagoon. The weather wasn't too great and it was a low season now in Croatia. Hence, it was like a ghost town in the small island we landed. We only spend less than an hour here before heading back to Trogir, and spend our evening wandering in the old town. |
|
Day 6
After checking out from our Trogir apartment, we drove to the Fortress Klir (36m, 29km). Took some photos from the outside of the Fortress as we did not pay to enter. After that, we continue our journey to see the ruins in Solin before driving to Split (19m, 8km) to stay overnight. Again, lots of shops were closed in Split during this time of the year. |

Day 7
From Split, we drove about 45 mins (27km) to Ivan Meštrović - Mila Gojsalić statue. You had to park your car at the roadside and take a short walk to the statue. The History of Mila Gojsalić - In 1530, the villages in this area were being threatened by a large Ottoman (i.e. Turkish) army. They were on the verge of victory. However, legend has it that a beautiful young girl from Poljica named Mila Gojsalić slipped into the tent of Ottoman leader Ahmed-Pasha and seduced him. After, when he fell asleep, she snuck into the gunpowder storage of the Turkish army and set it on fire, burning it as well as the entire Ottoman camp. The Turks tried to capture her but, with them at her heels, she courageously ran to the edge of the cliff overlooking the mouth of the Cetina River and jumped to her death. After some nice photos, we continued our drive to Kravice Waterfalls (2h20m, 133km). This is another nice waterfall in Croatia. We spend about 2 hours here before setting off to Bosnia and Herzegovina, driving straight to Mostar, arriving at night to check into our AirBnb. |
