Day 1 - Sandvagur
We touched down in Faroe Islands airport at around 140pm, and picked up our rental car from Avis. where we booked a Suzuki Swift for DKK1828 (SGD379). Avis counter is within this relatively small airport. After we pick up our car from the open air carpark outside the airport, we make our way to Gasadalur village, which is one of the most photographed places in Faroe Islands. The drive took us only 15-20 mins from Vagar Airport. We were fortunate with the weather as it was raining for the past few days, but was sunny when we arrived in Faroe Islands. After spending about an hour here, we checked into our B&B in Sandavagur, which is just 12-15 mins opposite way from the airport. The B&B has a great view of the ocean and surrounding mountains, and is nicely decorated (would recommend people to base here to explore Faroe Islands). After settling in and had a quick late lunch, we drove off to the Lake Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn (name is debatable, depending on who you ask) is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. The lake has also been dubbed “the lake over the ocean” as the view from a particular angle functions as an optical illusion, appearing to look as though the lake is hovering directly above the ocean. At the end of the lake is the impressive Bøsdalafossur waterfall. The hike out to Bøsdalafossur is easy and takes about 45 minutes. Please follow the gravel path out to the end of the lake. On the main road, turn onto the road by the church in Miðvágur. From there, follow the signs to “Trælanípa/Bøsdalafossur” until you reach a parting spot. Go through the gate and walk along the gravel path. The path stops in some places but if you continue walking along the lake, you shouldn’t have any problems finding the path again. Day 2 - Sandvagur
After breakfast in the B&B, we drove 10-15 mins to the ferry terminal to try our luck for a return trip to Mykines since it was a perfect day for hiking. Unfortunately, there's only one seat available and hence we decided to do the ferry to bird cliffs and grottos (DKK295 per pax) instead. The drive to Vestmanna ferry port (passing through the undersea tunnel) from Vagar took us about 35-40 mins. This is a 2-hour ferry ride, which is great way to view the cliffs and grotto from the ocean. However, don't expect to see much sea birds with this ride. Bed & Breakfast Sandavágur |

Day 3 - Faore Islands
After having breakfast in our B&B, we drove to the ferry terminal to take our ride to Mykines Island. The drive from B&B to ferry terminal is only 10-15 mins. Our ferry departs 1010am, and return at 505pm. Tickets cost us DKK240 for two-way for the two of us. The ferry ride to Mykines is about 45-50 mins. Once we arrived at Mykines ferry terminal, we need to take some steep stairs up before walking towards the hiking trail to the lighthouse. For Puffin lovers, this is a MUST visit place when you visit Faroe Islands. The hike up to the cliff starts when you see a big signboard before you enter the town. Turn left and walk upwards after you see the signboard. Upon reaching the top, you will start to see lots of puffins near the cliff. Follow the path, and the place that you will see the most Puffins is before crossing the bridge towards the lighthouse. You literately walk among the Puffin bird nest and see them flying all over you. Bed & Breakfast Sandavágur |
