Day 1: Vang Vieng - UDON Thani
We took a 6-7 hour bus ride from Vang Vieng (Laos) to Udon Thani. The bus ticket cost 110,000 kip each. The journey from Vang Vieng to Laos custom took about 3 hours. After clearing the Laos boarder, it was a short 5-10 mins bus ride to the Thai boarder. The queue at the Thailand boarder was much longer and we had to queue for about half an hour. After that, it was another 3 hours to Udon Thani bus terminal. From the bus terminal, we took a Grab to our accommodation in Udon Thani for 85 baht. Rest and relax for the night. Hotel : Jamjureehome Udon Thani (THB2,950 for three nights inclusive of breakfast) |

Day 2: UDON THANI
We rented a Mazda 2 for 2 days, 2,400 baht, from UD Car Rental. They delivered the car to our accommodation at around 1015am. Set off to our first destination at around 11am, Phu Phra Bat Historical Park. Along the way, we stopped at Sister Cafe for lunch. We spend about an hour in Phu Phra Bat and left for Wat Pa Phu Kon at around 330pm. We arrived at the temple at aroudn 430pm, and hence had 30mins here before the temple is closed. We left the temple at around 530pm, and drove more than 2 hours back to Udon Thani. |

Day 3: UDON THANI
We woke up 515am and left our accommodation at 530am towards the Red Lotus Lake to catch the sunrise. We arrived at the boat terminal at Ban Diam at around 630am, and took the small boat for THB300 for an hour boat ride. After about 10 mins boat ride, we stopped among the pink water lilies to enjoy sunrise. Although we suppose to stop at three spots, we ended up only going to two spots as I've spend too much time flying drone in both the stop :p. Overall, a nice experience not to be missed while in Udon Thani during Dec-Feb period. Next, we drove to the old ferry port, which is 30 mins drive from Ban Diam port. A lot less tourists here, and you can see the pink water lilies from the shore, unlike the one at Ban Diam, where you need to take about 10 mins boat ride out. We would recommend people to come to this port instead to enjoy the red/pink water lilies. The price of the boat ride is the same, THB300 for an hour for small boat. Next stop was breakfast at a popular duck noodle stall, which is 5-10 mins drive from the old port. Yummy and inexpensive duck noodle. After breakfast, we drove about 40mins to UNESCO site, National Museum of Ban Chiang, where prehistorical findings dating back as far as 5,000 years ago were displayed. Entrance fee THB150 each. We spend about an hour here, and left for the lotus shaped temple, about 3km from the museum. After visiting the temple, we headed back to Udon Thani city, and tour around Nong Prachak Public Park and the surrouding temples before heading back to hotel to rest and relax. |

Bus departed terminal 5pm, which was 30 mins late. The fare is 85 baht each. Reached Thai boarder 606pm and Laos boarder 616pm. Not crowded on Friday evening at both customs. Boarded bus again 630pm.
